Mario Will Become A Lego Adventurer Outside The Switch

Would you believe that our favourite red-hatted plumber from Nintendo is going to be sold as a LEGO product in the shape of Spongebob Squarepants this year [19]? I most certainly did not expect it as a fan of the Super Mario series and someone who used to customise and play with some Lego figures as a child. Nevertheless, I am quite delighted to see two childhood icons gracefully fuse in early 2020, thus helping one of the most successful video game franchises try something fairy new outside the legacy of the Nintendo Switch [3] [4] [9] [15]. A LEGO adaption worked for Sonic the Hedgehog in Lego Dimensions back in late 2016, didn’t it [17] [23]? As much as I enjoyed watching the blue blur’s live-action movie on Valentine’s Day with my boyfriend this year, I am willing to state my thoughts on his competitor’s Lego sets that are yet to be released soon. Hopefully the sets could be released later this year to truly bring Mario’s legacy into the new decade while many animal crossers roam through new horizons in a new era of Animal Crossing [8]. As we analyse the trailer for such a fascinating concept, we can say that Lego Mario will be-a ready!

Behold, Mariobob Plumberpants! He’s-a ready! He’s-a ready! [3] [4] [9] [15]

The prime source of fun would be from the Spongebob-shaped Mario [3] [4] [9] [15]. Simply flick the switch on his back and hear him shout “It’s-a-Lego Mario time!” and the journey will begin. A form of challenge for the young consumers after they arrange the rest of the set in any order would be the time limit often shown in the screen below his face. According to the trailer, the countdown starts when Lego Mario is inserts into a green pipe, thus beginning a decent for a young consumer [3] [4] [9] [15]. I like how the expressions of his eyes and mouth change, depending on where the young consumer places him as this makes him more lively and expressive as a battery-powered toy. Another aspect that makes the toy fairly life-like for interactive play is the audio that comes from it. You could say that how the “Level Complete” music that plays when the Lego Mario lands on the flag pole could get stuck inside your head [11] [24]. Even though he is Spongebob-shaped, he blends in quite well with the sets shown in the trailer as they consist of detail that combines the elements of the Mushroom Kingdom with what to expect from LEGO [3] [4] [9] [15].

The small variety of expressions for Lego Mario’s liquid-crystal display eyes and mouth make him seem like a fun toy to play with, especially for reenacting any of the levels in the main games. [3] [4] [9] [15]

The music playing from Lego Mario also speeds up when there is only a certain amount of time left, which is just like how the music would go faster when time is running out in the main Super Mario games [10] [11]. Another aspect that is true to the games! [3] [4] [9] [15]

The interactions between the LEGO Mario toy and the other accessories make the set faithful to what made the main Mario games iconic to this day [3] [4] [9] [15]. See how a coin appears in the screen on Mario’s chest after a child places his feet on the top of a Lego Goomba? Speaking of coins, I found it quite odd that Lego Mario can hit a Coin Block with his feet instead of his hand, which unfortunately sacrifices some of that faithfulness to the games. Nonetheless, I guess not including any interactivity in Lego Mario’s hands reduced costs during the toy line’s production. There are also some hazards that can be interacted with, including red platforms that represent lava pits, but they ought to be avoided to help the sets maintain a mild source of challenge as failing to avoid them would lead to the Mario toy having the letter “X” in each eye. It is quite amusing how Lego Bowser Jr.’s shell is no longer spiked, so it can FINALLY be jumped on by a plumber with a moustache after all of these years. Speaking of Lego Bowser Jr., I suppose he makes a good first boss [10].

I think I understand why Lego Mario uses his feet instead of his arms to get coins from Coin Blocks. His arms are too stubby! [3] [4] [9] [15]

At least the way Lego Mario can earn a coin from making a young consumer stomp on a Goomba is true to what us Nintendo nerds would expect from a main Super Mario game [10] [11]. [3] [4] [9] [15]

Other characters that can be seen in the trailer for the upcoming LEGO Mario sets include:

• Green Yoshi
• Shy Guy
• Piranha Plant
• Blooper
• Koopa Troopa

I find it quite cute when a heart appears on Lego Mario’s chest when he meets up with Yoshi [3] [4] [9] [15], even though a small fraction of us will probably get funny ideas from that moment. I can see that the Piranha Plant is another hazard, but it can be avoided when Lego Mario is pressed onto a switch that can send him back into his pipe. At the moment, we are not sure which character will be included in which set. Next, we may witness a Spongebob-shaped Luigi that plays the same sounds from the games, but with clips of his voice performed by Charles Martinet [20]. I would love to own a Lego Princess Peach that will say “Peachy!” after the sets shown in the trailer sell successfully [13]. Apart from how Lego Mario can function with some other characters, every booklet of instructions on how to build each character and other aspect included in each separate set should be clear and helpful for every young consumer.

Overall, the upcoming Lego Mario sets with many interactive features can be described as a way to play Super Mario Maker or Super Mario Maker 2 without a console [12] [16]. If a sibling is hogging the Switch to play Animal Crossing: New Horizons [8], the brand new Lego set that comes with a battery-powered Mario has got the other sibling covered. Maybe they, along with more Lego Mario sets that feature other characters, such as Luigi and Toad can inspire a community of young content creators to ambitiously produce videos with it and post them on a website, such as YouTube in the near future, similar to how the LPSTube community have enjoyed producing videos with their Littlest Pet Shop toys for their YouTube channels throughout the 2010s and can still do in a new decade with a bit of hope [5] [6] [16] [27]. Even though I see the main characters as doctors in their fire outfits in the most recent updates of Dr. Mario World as rather uninspired [1] [2] [25] [26], I find a new way to play a timeless platforming adventure with Mario, especially for the youth of today remarkable and refreshing. Let’s-a go to the Krusty Koopa, Mariobob Plumberpants!
