Strongly Hopeful For The Second Super Mario Bros. Movie in 2026

During my third time at MegaCon in Birmingham, I cosplayed as a female version of Mario from an alternate universe [51]. Nearly two weeks before that delightful Saturday, it was announced that a follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie was announced on this year’s Mario Day by Shigeru Miyamoto and Chris Meledandri [46] [86]. I have thought about what could be there in a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie for quite some time [87] [88] [91] [92], especially after seeing a highly promising post-credits scene [79]. I see the full competence of Illumination Entertainment as I was impressed at the outcome of Migration, an animation film about a family of ducks going on a migration for the first time [26]. And yes, we are yet to find out if Gru’s biological son will soften up to him in Despicable Me 4 this July [22]. While LEGO lovers and Fortnite fanatics remain ambitious in LEGO Fortnite [15] [16] [17], the new kids are finally prepared for battle in South Park: Snow Day! [65] [80], and new premium and mini Helluva Boss plushies are available to pre-order [19], let us expand on what can be expected in a follow-up to one of the most successful films of 2023 besides Barbie over two weeks after its announcement [85].

Can you imagine if there was a direct sequel to Super Mario Bros.: Peach-Hime Kyushutsu Dai Sakusen!, also known as “Super Mario Bros.: The Great Mission To Rescue Princess Peach!”, the animated film that was only released in Japan [72]? Next thing, there might as well be a sequel or reboot of the Animal Crossing anime film that can be released worldwide [83] [84]. [72]

We have discussed how a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie can excel twice [87] [88] [91] [92], but now that we know a follow-up is currently in development [45] [85], let us have a brief recap on what plenty of us have predicted. [69]

Admittedly, Chris Pratt’s skills in voice acting suit Garfield in the upcoming animated film based on the comics by Jim Davis better [63] [64], compared to his performance as Nintendo’s red-hatted hero [79], but what would be more important than how he will reprise the role in the sequel is how effective some expanded character development would be for him in the next Super Mario Bros. movie [87] [88] [91] [92]. Of course, the main highlight of that would be when he rides on a newly hatched Yoshi [79], just like how he would in New Super Mario Bros. Wii [34]. However, more logically as we have only seen the loveable green dinosaur-like being as a hatching egg, we may see him as a Baby Yoshi who will be taken care of by Mario or (Mama) Luigi [33] [82]. Perhaps a few more Baby Yoshis can be discovered to express their abilities, such as a blue one blowing out bubbles and a magenta one inflating like a balloon [33], thus being a lot more useful, in character, and artistically stimulating than Sonic the Hedgehog being inflated in programs like MMD and sandbox games like Garry’s Mod [60] [61] [62]. No offence to those who enjoy creating such images and videos. Mario’s next chapter after proving his worth in The Super Mario Bros. Movie is likely to not only develop a crush on Princess Peach but also begin a new friendship [79] [91] [92].

Aside from a new friendship with a newly hatched Yoshi for Mario as he continues to show his worthiness in Mushroom Kingdom [79], there might as well be a jab at the iconic hilarity of Hotel Mario in the forthcoming sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie to appeal to the old school YouTube Poopers out there [27], considering how many humourous moments there were in the first film [79]. [76]

How big will Yoshi’s appetite be in his cinematic debut [33] [34] [79]? [82]

I still stand by how the recently announced sequel ought to focus a little more on Luigi [91] [92]. I am up for Princess Daisy making an appearance as a new supporting character who can mentor him in the same way Peach mentored Mario in the first film [87] [88] [91] [92], but not in a certain way that would not be recommended for the younger fans (or older fans who seek better character writing) and go against Elsa’s warning about marrying someone who just met [8] [91] [92]. Daisy can be just as self-empowered as Peach, but wittier as a female comic relief [87] [88] [91] [92], quite like Terk from Tarzan, Charlotte La Bouff from The Princess and The Frog, and Anna from Frozen [29], yet there can be some depth on how she became the ruler of Sarasaland to keep the lore faithful to the games [87] [88]. Many of us may miss the year of Luigi [66], but there is still plenty of validation for the green-hatted brother to go around. Moreover, I might as well cosplay as a female version of Luigi from the same alternate universe that the female version of Mario I cosplayed as comes from, especially if I plan to attend MegaCon for the fourth time in the near future [51].

How about a little more focus on Player Two for Movie Number Two? Besides, I hold no ill will against Charlie Day voicing Luigi instead of the eventually retired Charles Martinet either [33] [34] [79]. Besides, the voice acting in The Super Mario Bros. Movie is at least more expressive than the bland and corny but ultimately quotable voice acting in Hotel Mario [76] [79]. [69]

Chances are that Luigi could have a little crush on a cinematic incarnation of another princess from another kingdom [74], as clichéd as that sounds, but there ought to just be a little sign of him being smitten by her as his main priority is to rise from being a captive in the first film [79]. [74]

A poster for the well-deserved sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie might as well feature Princess Peach holding a parasol like the one she glides in the air with in the Super Smash Bros. series and one of the Point exchange items an animal crosser can earn from the Tom Nook Point Tracking System in Animal Crossing: Let’s Go To The City [31] [59]. I would love to see her white and pink dress from Super Mario Sunshine or her elegant vacation outfit from Super Mario Odyssey return on the big screen [38] [39], but what would be more important in terms of further character depth would be providing some backstory on how she and Bowser first met and a very one-sided romance bloomed [87] [88]. Perhaps if there will be a third film set to be marketed and released in 2029, the year that will honour Barbie’s 70^th anniversary or a year later to mark the Super Mario series’ 45^th anniversary [91] [92], there can be a new focus on Peach with some elements from Princess Peach Showtime!, the latest installation of the Super Mario franchise that has shown how far the iconic princess of Mushroom Kingdom has come since her debut in 1985 as a rehash of her ability to shed that “damsel-in-distress” skin that was proven in Super Princess Peach [35] [40] [42] [43] [44] [47], along with the appearance of Rosalina and her Lumas if there were to be some aspects of the Super Mario Galaxy duology [36] [37]. 

Alternatively, Peach’s parasol in a new Super Mario Bros. movie taking place after the events of the high-grossing masterpiece can be in a new film-exclusive design [14]. Aside from that, the slogan on this poster of her reminds me of the inspirational motto from the modern Barbie series known as “You Can Be Anything” [3] [4] [69]. [69]

There still could be some room in the sequel to provide some further depth for Donkey Kong and his father Cranky Kong [87] [88] [91] [92], especially in association with a flashback scene that is a direct reference to the 1981 classic known as “Donkey Kong” and its sequel known as “Donkey Kong Jr.” [32] [68], along with a more effective supporting role for Diddy Kong in the present. There is also potential to establish a spin-off film based on the Donkey Kong Country games that can be considered miles better than the animated series that originally ran from 1997 to 2000 [54] [55] [67]. On second thought, a spin-off centred on the Kong tribe could be a television series instead as six episodes of Knuckles on Paramount+ could be considered an effective expansion of the live-action incarnation of Knuckles the Echidna, especially as its own thing next month [89]. Aside from the potential to squeeze in some more depth for the incarnation of Donkey Kong voiced by Seth Rogan alongside an event based on any of the sports-themed spin-off games, such as the Mario Tennis series in a follow-up to The Super Mario Bros. Movie [71] [79], would you believe that it has been nearly a year since the reveal of a bunch of LEGO sets based on Donkey Kong and the gang [86]?

The year that the sequel of the movie is set to be released will also mark the 45^th anniversary of your dad’s debut, big guy [32] [45]! [69]

Of course, there is some speculation that there will be new antagonists in the sequel to spice things up. Two notable examples are Wario who might as well become Wario-Man at some point as a shout-out to the WarioWare series and Waluigi who can be his partner-in-crime as they compete against Mario and Luigi in an event based on the Mario Party series [73] [91] [92]. If Bowser were to strike back as the main protagonist, leading to the possibility of another hit song by Jack Black [75], Bowser Jr. ought to set him free possibly disguised as Shadow Mario from Super Mario Sunshine [38]. Why not let the Koopalings star in the sequel as well [34]? [70]

There is some speculation that the next big project from Illumination Entertainment licenced by Nintendo will not be necessarily a direct sequel, but more like a spin-off centred on a specific spin-off series [5] [49], quite like how a follow-up to Barbie: The Movie ought to be centred on Ken finding his own identity without the need to bring on a toxic patriarchy [90] [93]. Moreover, as I suspect that the next film will be focused more on Luigi, the possibility of the next film being more like a spin-off film can result in him becoming more courageous in a new interpretation of Luigi’s Mansion, much to Charlie Day’s interest [91] [92]. However, it is vital to not let the post-credits scene of the first film go to waste as there ought to be plenty of moments of Mario or (Mama) Luigi bonding with Yoshi [33] [82]. In the meantime, I shall root for an eventually and deservingly redeemed Misty Brightdawn to be part of a mystery to solve in My Little Pony: A Zephyr Heights Mystery this May [18] [46]. But as proactive as we can be when it comes to forthcoming continuations, it is vital to ensure that working environments remain safe and healthy, especially after some horrific incidents get exposed [7] [28] [48] [58]. While vowing to be better, we can still nurture our mental well-beings as The Super Mario Bros. Movie will be back in cinemas this June [85].

I am so proud of my homegirl Princess Peach for starring in her second own game [42] [43] [44] [47]. Speaking of lovable blonde-haired princesses, I thank the lovely and talented Erika Henningsen, the voice of Charlie Morningstar from Hazbin Hotel for the thoughtful message I received from her and my fiancé for my birthday [20] [52] [53]. Moreover, I am happy to state that I can still consider myself a loyal Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss fan as much as I still consider myself a fan of the Super Mario franchise, especially after getting a “HELL YEAH!!!” from a Lucifer Morningstar cosplayer at MegaCon in Birmingham [25] [52] [53] [89]. [42]

Whether the next Super Mario Bros. film will be a direct sequel or more like a spin-off film focused more on Luigi featuring many aspects of the Luigi’s Mansion games [91] [92], there is hope that it will be established as more than just another big dose of financial gain [79]. As important as it is to acknowledge passion alongside money-making, it is vital to encourage equal opportunities…and not be afraid to let those who dare to stoop lows face the consequences yet remain rational when it comes to standing with justice [6] [9] [57]. [69]

More Promising Possibilities Of A Sequel To The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Near the closure of the Sonic Superstars installation at Westfield London [62] [64], my fiancé and I expanded on the one-year anniversary celebration of our engagement by watching The Super Mario Bros. Movie on Prime Video. I might as well be one of those films to watch again with the kids this Christmas besides Frozen while some older family members could play a game such as Portal II, Rayman Legends, Stardew Valley, It Takes Two, or Mario Kart 8 Deluxe that can prevent an argument from erupting [9] [17] [49] [57]. The animated feature is one of the most successful films of 2023 for its vibrant animation, wittiness, and faithfulness to the Super Mario games [82]. Some of us have been curious about how well a well-deserved sequel could be a faithful follow-up without making the same mistakes many other sequels have made [99] [100]. It may not be recommended to play games that lack competitive elements such as Star Wars: Battlefront II with family members this Christmas [90], but I personally recommend fondly discussing how a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie can excel together as a community of Nintendo nerds who were thrilled at its overall outcome [99] [100]. Besides, we cannot let that post-credit scene go to waste, which is what happened to Murfy from the Rayman series saying “See you in Rayman 4!” in Rayman 3: Hoodlum Havoc [58] [84].

A follow-up film can provide new opportunities for characters, yet it can end up being considered less favourable or even controversial if not handled considerately [1] [26] [59]. I am looking at you, Music [27] [36]. I hope you NEVER get a sequel! Personally, I consider 2023 a direct sequel to 2022 for many reasons other than how it is the year after 2022 [33]. [72]

The reason for hiring an experienced actor like Chris Pratt to voice Mario was probably because Charles Martinet had been so used to one-liners for the games before his retirement from the role [38] [39] [41] [82]. I do not blame him for that though as the voice actor is often not involved with the writing. The same reason must have applied to hiring Charlie Day to voice Luigi, hiring Jack Black to voice Bowser and so on. More importantly, Mario and Luigi had effective character developments and a little relatability in an origin film. Some new developments for the brothers in the sequel can be Mario developing a crush on Peach and Luigi gradually becoming braver [100] [101]. It may be a little off that the Illumination Entertainment interpretation of Mario does not like the taste of mushrooms [82], but at least none of them has caused him to hallucinate, which is what happened to the one and only Crazy Frog in one of his latest music videos [10]. Aside from the hopefulness of Chris Pratt and Charlie Day reprising their roles in a sequel to the animated film that made up for a live-action disappointment from 1993 [34], I wish all the best to Kevin Afghani for voicing Mario, Luigi and Wario in the future of the Super Mario franchise after the success of Super Mario Bros. Wonder [18] [19] [45]. 

It may be a little odd that Pratt is the voice of Garfield in the upcoming animated film starring our favourite fat cat from the comics by Jim Davis [13] [68], but the actor is still worthy of praise for his performances as Star-Lord in the Marvel Cinematic Universe [20]. [72]

I do not doubt that plenty of Nintendo nerds are hyped for Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD in 2024 [79]. Hopefully, a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie can handle a bigger focus on the secondary character quite well [82] [100] [101]. [79]

Strangely enough, Princess Peach did not hold a parasol once in the entire movie [82]. This leads me to believe that another new character in the sequel could be Perry from Super Princess Peach [48]. I am aware that he has not appeared in the games for years, but it would still be a fitting surprise comeback, considering how self-empowered Peach was in the movie [82]. Speaking of self-empowerment, perhaps the sequel can introduce Toadette as another supporting character and the Super Crown power-up from New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, which would also bring Peachette to the big screen [40]. It could lead to Bowser falling for her and mistaking her for the real Peach, as clichéd as that form of dramatic irony would be, but perhaps there could be some backstory on how he fell in love with the princess for some further character exploration [82]. Besides, I felt like the alley cats in Tom & Jerry: The Movie were spiteful towards Tom for no reason and there still has been no explanation for why Stella is so hateful to Stolas throughout their arranged marriage besides his adultery with Blitzo in Helluva Boss [28] [29] [30] [31] [83]. As a much more likeable princess, the outstanding interpretation of Peach voiced by Anya Taylor-Joy could be sure to ditch that damsel-in-distress phase…until further notice [82].

Let us hope that Peach will not leave the stove on in a new Super Mario Bros. movie. Think of the meatloaf [66]! [72]

Anything to say about Bowser, the tyrant named after a Korean soup recipe, according to Fibbage 3 [23]? He sure went yandere on Peach with a form of blackmail, quite like how Frollo threatened Esmeralda in The Hunchback of Notre Dame…but without the death by fire penalty [81] [86]. If only Cameron Poe would teach him not to treat women like that [53]. Moreover, he could still feel those feelings for the princess in pink after being rescued by his son…and even lie to him about her being his mother, quite like in Super Mario Sunshine [41] [82]! Watching that intense moment when he gets Luigi to spit out the truth by gradually yanking his moustache is a reminder to not let Rachel from Sonic the Hedgehog 2 hire him for a certain waxing treatment [67] [82], which might as well happen to Wario or Waluigi just before a deal is made in the sequel [100] [101], but as I preached before, it is important to not recycle too many jokes and such from the first film to make a sequel effective. Before Bowser can strike back in The New Super Mario Bros. Movie (which is just a predicted title for now), he must be restored to his normal size sometime after an amusing defeat at the end of Illumination Entertainment’s big step up [82].

Where’s MY pet turtle [82]? [72]

Looking at the map during the meeting in Peach’s castle, I suspect that the land resembling an iconic part of Egypt is Sarasaland [82], which could lead to Princess Daisy becoming a cast member in the sequel [100] [101]. She ought to display a few tomboyish traits and be cheerfully witty, yet there could be some backstory on how she became the princess of Sarasaland or more originally, how she got out of being the hostage of Tatanga as a direct reference to Super Mario Land [71]. If there could be a flashback of Rosalina as a baby in a third Super Mario Bros. film, the design of Baby Rosalina can have the palette of her as a child in the storybook in Super Mario Galaxy [46], which is what she lacked since her debut in Mario Kart 8 [37] [88]. I would be delighted to see Princess Daisy mentor Luigi as an important element of some new character development for him in a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie and if there is not enough room for a dash of faithfulness to Super Mario Galaxy and Super Mario Galaxy 2 in this development [46] [47], it can always be sprinkled into development of a third film.

Despite my bitterness towards X, formerly known as “Twitter” throughout the 2020s so far, I still thank Jeanne for acknowledging my old drawing of Baby Rosalina in a design that is faithful to the story of Rosalina’s past in Super Mario Galaxy from 2015 [37] [46]. [85] [88]

Perhaps Diddy Kong can earn a slightly bigger role than a cheerleader for Donkey Kong in the sequel [82]. It would be swell if he could gain an Ice Flower to become Ice Diddy Kong or any other power alongside some effectiveness within a bigger role. As for Cranky Kong, I still believe that he could be captured to perform in a circus in Brooklyn at Donkey Kong’s age in a flashback [100] [101]. Additionally, there could be a brief appearance of Wrinkly Kong [76], a deceased character from the Donkey Kong Country series as a retro equivalent of Candy Kong being a mother to Baby Donkey Kong in another flashback and as possibly a ghost who advises Luigi on his next survival challenge in the present. Shockingly enough, a new antagonist could be a new interpretation of King K. Rool who could be more intimidating than how he was in the television series based on the Donkey Kong Country games and assist Bowser Jr. in avenging his father as an exclusive element outside of the games [8]. As previously stated, there can be a little more in Donkey Kong’s struggles with receiving fatherly approval in The New Super Mario Bros. Movie…and possibly a flashback of Mario’s father being the foe of Cranky Kong, which would be pretty shocking (but coincidental) to two sons [82] [100] [101].

It is quite interesting how this interpretation of Cranky Kong is the emperor of a kingdom in the movie [82], unlike the Cranky Kong in the Donkey Kong Country series [56]. It sure is great to leave a certain interpretation of the elderly ape in the late 2010s [25]. [72]

Yoshi’s appearance could just simply be the biggest highlight of the sequel [82]. There ought to be a particular trait that makes him stand out from the crowd of today other than how he hatched in the sewers in Brooklyn, making him a little more than a pet like Dino from The Flintstones [16], but let a talented actor with an iconic voice like Ryan Reynolds voice him and you could get the next Yabba Dabba Dinosaurs [6] [15]! But I digress. Please stick to his limited vocabulary enriched by an adorable high-pitched voice or make his speech like how it was in the Super Mario World cartoon [37] [38] [39] [94]! Birdo also has the potential to make an appearance in the sequel. She could perhaps be an enemy as a direct reference to the Western version of Super Mario Bros. 2 [44], but then gradually became an ally throughout some character development, especially to Yoshi for possibly a little wholesome transgender representation [69]. Oops! I just sounded woke all of a sudden! Oh well. Quite like how there is potential for Dogpool to be a competent sidekick for Deadpool in Deadpool 3 [60], Yoshi has the potential to be the most notable new cast member in The New Super Mario Bros. Movie [82] [100] [101].

Yoshi is one of the cutest video game characters of all time! Surely, The New Super Mario Bros. Movie cannot mess up his role as a noble steed [82]. [72]

Perhaps there could be more covers of iconic soundtracks from the games, such as the underwater theme from Super Mario 64 if Mario or Luigi ought to swim underwater in the Penguin Suit from New Super Mario Bros. Wii or the Frog Suit from Super Mario Bros. 3 [39] [41] [42] [70]. Some of the licensed songs chosen for certain scenes in the film are from the 1980s [75], the same era the Super Mario series began [43], so I guess they were not too irrelevant as they at least fitted the mood of each scene. And why not let Brentalfloss write a few parodies of the licensed songs for each scene in The Super Mario Bros. Movie based on what happens on the screen [78]? There might as well be some iconic songs from the 1990s as Super Mario World was released in the first few years of that decade [74]. As exciting as it would be for the sequel to be a full-blown musical with a lot more original songs, especially by Jack Black’s apparent request [3] [22], it would be indeed less time-consuming to be licensed to use a few more popular hits from successful artists for certain scenes. But c’mon! How about another awesome original song by JACK BLACK AS BOWSER!!! [82]? Okay, I will stop quoting Josh Scorcher from 2021 now [7].

And speaking of power-ups, I suppose there can finally be an explanation for Pink Gold Peach’s existence since her debut in Mario Kart 8 as there can be the Pink Gold Crown for Peach to put on her head to become Pink Gold Peach [37] [86], thus letting the Metal Mario theme from Super Mario 64 play [41] [42]. Oh! And sorry, I know I made this cute little thing in Adobe Photoshop almost a decade ago [86], but DeviantArt is not really worth my time anymore for my mental well-being and proactivity’s sake. [86]

I know that many sequels seemed unneeded or just did not excel like the original did [93], but it is still fun and interesting to discuss how one can leave at least some positive impact on fans [100] [101]. However, the sudden cancellation of a sequel in development could end up being a blessing instead of a heartbreak [21]. Nonetheless, such wasted potential after a moment hinting at a follow-up could be even more heartbreaking. If Disney’s Wish is considered “woke” [24], Kaa from the company’s iconic interpretation of The Jungle Book might as well come out as non-binary, thus going by They/Them pronouns [95], yet I still understand that effective storytelling is a bigger priority whilst refraining from being an anti-SJW about it. Without hassling anyone on the matter of assuring remarkable entertainment, we can hope for the best for future additions to franchises and new experiments. Perhaps a sequel to Barbie: The Movie could feature a short crossover with another live-action interpretation of Monster High [4]. Perhaps Frozen III can lead to Elsa finally finding a female love interest [89]. Perhaps there could be a spin-off of Helluva Boss centred on Stolas, other members of the Ars Goetia family and some new characters [98] [99]. And perhaps The New Super Mario Bros. Movie can do the Mario brothers’ next adventure on the big screen justice [82] [100] [101].

I am also up for a sequel to Wish that could be considered better with the same ambitious animation style but with even better handling of the topic of wishing, a few more effective signs of representation of a little Spanish culture and so on as I personally think that film is a little overhated [2] [14] [24] [102]. But for now, let us make some preparations for the experiences to cherish in 2024, including Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD and Princess Peach: Showtime! on the Nintendo Switch [52] [73], Suicide Squad: Kill The Justice League on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and PC [91], Hazbin Hotel on Prime Video [96] [97], the third season of Sonic Prime on Netflix and more of what Disney and Warner Bros. have to offer after their one-hundred-anniversary celebrations, including Inside Out 2 and Dune: Part Two [35] [54] [79] [92]. [80]

I wonder how some of our Mario Kart racers did in this year’s Holiday Tour in Mario Kart Tour [50]? I wish them the best of luck in the New Year’s Tour [51]. Aside from that, I guess Santa’s Slayground Holiday Event is especially for the Call of Duty soldiers on his…neutral list [55]. If you think sounds crazy, quite like how Batman and Deadpool know Santa [11] [12], there might as well be some more crazy crossovers to crave after the Universal New Year’s Celebration in Minecraft [32] [61]. The Promising Possibilities Of A Sequel To The Super Mario Bros. Movie

The Xbox Series X|S may not be selling as successfully in Japan [9], compared to its sales in the West, but one of the coolest promotions for Barbie: The Movie was giving away Barbie-themed Xbox Series X with its own dreamhouse and an Xbox controller styled in the same manner with a few faceplates and two other trinkets for a limited time [1] [3] [85], yet it is completely understandable why the Barbenheimer meme has not been considered a favourable form of wit in Japan [23] [25] [85]. Speaking of favourability in Japan, pretty blonde-haired ladies in pink and successful films in 2023 [69], one of my favourite aspects of The Super Mario Bros. Movie would be Princess Peach’s self-empowerment in her supporting role [67]. Even during the recent actors’ and writers’ strike in Hollywood that has caused the halts of many productions [8] [12] [19], both Japanese and Western Nintendo nerds can hope for an outstanding follow-up of The Super Mario Bros. Movie [67]. In the meantime, we can describe this concept as “The New Super Mario Bros. Movie” as that sounds more grammatically effective than “The Super Mario Bros. Movie 2”, even though the term “new” is only temporary [41] [42]. Moreover, I shall explain the ideal occurrences for “The New Super Mario Bros. Movie” during the digital release of Barbie: The Movie which will provide some bonus features [4] [5] [30] [36].

As one can imagine what would have happened if Nintendo never sold the rights of Rare to Microsoft [29] [54], one can imagine what can help a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie excel. Let’s-a go! [59] [64]

Mario and Luigi’s portrayals outside of the games have come a long way since that advert for the Atari 2600 port of Mario Bros. [53]. In “New Super Mario Bros. As for the potential of Luigi’s character in the sequel, he could meet, be trained by, and earn the trust of another princess, even though that would be a recycled element from the first film, yet it can be done differently for a little freshness. Furthermore, he could be motivated to try and become as mentally competent as his older brother, despite his captivity in the first film. There could be another flashback of the brothers as adorable babies in association with some character development of Luigi. I hold no ill will towards Chris Pratt and Charlie Day voicing the Mario brothers as I believe some effect further exploration for them would be more important to consider in terms of helping a sequel excel, despite how unnecessary it would mostly seem [16] [67].

Who would have thought Emmet and Benny would be plumbers in Brooklyn [65] [66]? And now that catchy song is stuck back in my head [66] [71]. [64]

There is some potential to let the relationship between Mario and Princess Peach bloom like a fire flower in a sequel, but quite realistically since they only just met and gradually became good allies during the events of the film [67]. Remember what Elsa said about marrying someone you just met in Frozen [18]! Furthermore, from what I recall, Mario and Princess Toadstool did not really show any signs of crushing on one another in The Adventures of Super Mario Bros 3 and Super Mario World, two of the three animated series from DIC Entertainment [74] [75]. As comparable as the Barbenheimer meme is to the meme surrounding Doom Eternal and Animal Crossing: New Horizons being released on the same day of March 2020 [23] [67] [27], the portrayal of Peach’s character in The Super Mario Bros. Movie is comparable to her portrayal in some episodes of the two cartoons from DIC Entertainment that featured her as a red-haired princess called “Princess Toadstool” [74] [75]. The blonde modern equivalent known as “Princess Peach” can still be self-empowered in “The New Super Mario Bros. Movie” without the need to go Mortal Kombat on anyone [73]. A moment of Mario and Peach going steady or at least crushing on one another in “The New Super Mario Bros. Movie” ought to be a decently written one without being rushed or too clichéd [11].

The relationship between Sid and Brooke in Ice Age: Collision Course was even more rushed, clichéd, and underdeveloped than the first three Disney princesses’ relationships with their princes [11] [24] [55] [56]. As for Mario and Peach’s relationship in a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, it could gradually blossom at a decent pace. And for the Peach’s character in general, there could be an expansion on her evolution from a lost baby to a ruler [67]. [64]

Donkey Kong’s role in The Super Mario Bros. Movie started as the protagonist’s battler and steadily evolved into his ally who had the same problem with lack of fatherly approval [67].Surely, it would make more sense to give him some further development in a spin-off film based on the Donkey Kong Country series [77] [78], but there might still be some room in The New Super Mario Bros. Movie for some further progression that can be associated with regenerating his relationship with Cranky Kong. I would not recommend a scene of Pauline getting kidnapped by Donkey Kong solely as a direct reference to the game that started the Super Mario franchise unless it will be a flashback scene of Cranky Kong at Donkey Kong’s age based on his design in Saturday Supercade, thus leading to his damsel-in-distress being Pauline’s mother at her age loosely based on her classic ‘80s design from the same animated series [2] [58] [63] [81] [82]. Additionally, there can be another flashback scene of Donkey Kong as Donkey Kong Jr. based on the events in the game with the same name in association with his feelings in the present [38]. The two Kongs might just let their father and son bond gradually bloom in The New Super Mario Bros. Movie [67].

Fire Donkey Kong’s design is awesome [79] [80]! How about Ice Donkey Kong in “The New Super Mario Bros. Movie” next? [64]

As for Cranky Kong, I believe there can be a flashback of him getting captured at some point as a punishment for kidnapping Pauline’s mother [81] [82], leading to Donkey Kong Jr. rescuing him as an emotional recreation of the events in the game with the same name [38]. But wait! Would that mean…Mario’s father was the one to capture a younger Cranky Kong [52]?! [58]

Bowser’s ballad about his love for Princess Peach is utterly genius [30]! Perhaps there can be a second ballad performed by the king of Koopas himself, yet chances are that it will not be as memorable as “Peaches” and could, unfortunately, be considered a mere recycled element from the first film [67]. Nonetheless, perhaps there could be a reprise of “Peaches” with new lyrics, much like how there was a reprise of “Addict” by Silva Hound and Michael Kovoc at the end of its music video [21] [22] [32]. Disturbingly enough, Bowser could go yandere on Peach again [67] [68], but again, there ought to not be too many recycled elements from the first film to make the sequel effective. In addition to that, some new exploration for the Boss of Bwahaha would be his fatherly compassion for his son who debuted in Super Mario Sunshine after he rescues him from his humourous imprisonment that was shown at the end of The Super Mario Bros. Movie [43] [67]. Furthermore, Bowser Jr. could be a new antagonist in the sequel and lead his father’s army to avenge him. As impressed as I was at Jack Black’s performance for the role of Bowser in The Super Mario Bros. Movie [79] [80], I suspect that the tyrannical Koopa King will strike back in a direct sequel. 

Jack, you’re so cool!

The direct sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie ought to introduce some new characters. This especially applies to Yoshi who made a brief appearance as an egg hatching in a post-credits scene [64] [67]. As previously stated, it would make a lot of sense to introduce Bowser Jr. as a new antagonist as he could strike to avenge his father [41] [43]. I know it is not the Halloween season yet, but I bet there can be a few awesome new costumes in a new Halloween tour in Mario Kart Tour next month [48] [49]. [57]

Surely, a sequel ought to consist of references to other spin-off series of the Super Marioseries, such as: 

• Luigi’s Mansion [39] [77] [78]
• Mario Party [40] [77] [78]
• Donkey Kong Country [77] [78]
• Super Mario Galaxy [43] [44] [45]

Day has expressed interest in a spin-off film centred on adapting the Luigi’s Mansion series [64], yet a moment of Luigi sucking up ghosts with the Poltergust 3000 could be part of a big step-up in his character in a direct sequel [39]. After all, a cute but crazy-talking luma known as “Lumalee” was one of Bowser’s captives in the film [64] [67]. Some missed opportunities can be established in a third movie as Jérémie Covillault, the voice of Bowser for the French dub of The Super Mario Bros. Movie suspected that there could be a trilogy [64].

As greedy as Wario ought to be if there will be a scene heavily based on the Mario Party series in “The New Super Mario Bros Movie”, Waluigi ought to pose with a rose in a weirdly sexy way [7] [40]. [60]

Why not let King Boo be another new antagonist if there will be a moment of Luigi’s new empowerment being based on the Luigi Mansion games as he was one of Bowser’s guests at his wedding [64] [67]? And why not let yours truly and many others have a pink Halloween next month [20] [34]? And why not let Cillian Murphy be a new Ken in “Barbie 2” as that could potentially make up for the understandable offence caused by some uses of the Barbenheimer meme in Japan [25] [70] [85]? [61]

In conclusion, with enough dedication and without any employees at Illumination Entertainment becoming unnervingly overworked [10] [14], a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie can be another stupendous film based on a beloved video game franchise [67]. But as hopeful as it is that a sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie could be an outstandingly faithful one, it is important to hope for some action to be taken in response to the strikes in Hollywood [8] [12] [19]. In the meantime, Barbie: The Movie will be released in IMAX form with a post-credits scene that will spark doll fans’ curiosities later this month and a new era of the main Super Mario games will begin the month after [72] [76] [85]. “Barbie 2” or “Ken” might as well be released in 2029 in honour of the Barbie franchise’s 70th anniversary and “The New Super Mario Bros. Movie” might as well be released a year later as a highlight of the Super Mario series’ 45th anniversary [43] [85]. And who knows how the tenth and eleventh generations of the Pokémon franchise, along with a possible sequel to Detective Pikachu based on Detective Pikachu Returns will go [15] [51]? In the meantime, stay hopeful for exciting continuations and be kind to one another.

Discussing what can help a sequel excel and what can hinder it is an interesting activity after watching a box-office success [69]. Of course, not all these suggestions have to be crammed into one sequel. Some of them can always be saved for a third film [86]. In the meantime, as previously mentioned, a new interactive adventure awaits us wondering about it and it is sure to be a new chapter of the main Super Mario series next month [83] [84]. [47]

While some things are better off left in the past after some eventual exposures as part of karma [28], others deserve to flourish in current or forthcoming chapters. Moreover, “Oops”, the latest episode of Helluva Boss can be considered the best one in the second season so far [32], it will not be long until Always Bratz premieres on TikTok and our Poké players will be thrilled to continue their journey in Paldea in The Hidden Treasure of Area Zone Part 1: The Teal Mask later this week [6] [50]. I strongly believe The Super Mario Bros. Movie deserves a well-executed sequel in the future, quite like how there will FINALLY be a sequel to Chicken Run this December [37]. [64]

Mario And Sonic At Forthcoming Animated Potential Beyond Their Games

It’s a-me, Laura! Mario “Jumpman” Mario and Sonic the Hedgehog had an insanely bitter rivalry throughout the ‘90s [40]. There were notable examples of shade aimed at one another, including Sonic’s shoes and Earthworm Jim’s pistol next to a trash can and a “No Hopers” sign in Cranky Kong’s “Video Game Heroes” awards ceremony in Donkey Kong Country 2: Diddy Kong’s Quest [37] [40]. Thankfully, Nintendo and SEGA finally got along in the 2000s. As a result, they let the two mascots, their friends and even their enemies compete in a virtual interpretation of the 2008 Summer Olympics [25]. Outside their own main series, there has been a lot of hope for the Canadian animated series known as “Sonic Prime” to excel within its individuality a little later this month and the animated film from Illumination Entertainment to be truly outstanding in honour of the plumber’s legacy on the big screen in April 2023 [50] [51] [52] [53] [54] Especially if you also have fond memories of playing any of the Mario & Sonic games [15] [24] [25] [26], let us analyse the two sneak peeks of Sonic Prime and The Super Mario Bros. Movie together after humbling ourselves to the classic black and white 1930s vibes of the new animated short starring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit [42]. 

Will I be up for seeing The Super Mario Bros. Movie with my significant other when it comes out [51] [52] [53] [54]? Of course! [13]

And I know I have already made a Sonic Prime article sandwich [49], but feel free to consider this the packet of crisps that go with it. [19]

The sneak peek of Sonic Prime features an alternate version of Miles “Tails” Prower struggling to understand the value of friendship within some trust issues [19]. This new, bitter version has a rather bizarre invention that originated from the times he was bullied for having an extra tail, which makes him the child genius equivalent of Ninetales from the Pokémon franchise [41]. As Sonic the Hedgehog tries to explain that he is his best friend as some source of power beams in his shoes after he moves his feet, I was very intrigued by a familiar 16-bit style in two flashbacks that have the same scenario but have entirely different takes; one with a blue bestie to the rescue and the other without him [19] [33]. It is quite devastating how friendship apparently does not exist in the universe the mysterious, friendless version of Tails resides in with alternate versions of Amy Rose, Knuckles the Echidna and Rouge the Bat [50]. Despite years of self-isolation, quite similar to Elsa from Frozen [5], he later asks a few questions about Sonic’s friendship with his mainstream counterpart [19], which could lead to some character development for him as part of the series’ moral theme of truly treasuring friendships as hinted in the trailer [20] [50].

Sonic and another Tails’ alliance will indeed be drastically different, compared to the second box-office success [35]. I am also quite impressed at the pixel art of the alternate Tails in a modern design during his flashback. [19]

And not to mention that Sonic’s green eyes on his sprite during his flashback regarding the mainstream Tails reminds me of the Sonic Advance series [29] [30] [31]. [19]

Words cannot describe the ambition put into the sneak peek of The Super Mario Bros. Movie presented at the 2022 Game Awards [13] [36]. Toad leads Mario through a village where many other Toads reside, doing various tasks, including a Yellow Toad browsing an antique shop run by a Red Toad. How uneasy Mario seemed as he latched onto the edge of a moving platform and screamed through the pipe before slumping off its green exit in exhaustion is yet another sign of him gradually progressing within his origin as he will be not yet used to the platforming elements of the main Super Mario series [21] [22] [23]. Similarly, considering how he is separated from his brother Luigi [13] [36], there ought to be some similar struggles within the origin of the green-hatted fellow as he tries to survive in a darker world [53] [54]. Lastly, orchestral covers of the Super Mario Bros. overworld theme and the Super Mario World overworld theme are playing in the background [22] [23], which elevates the feeling of watching a theatrical film based on the Super Mario Bros. franchise even further. This sneak peek is sure to further increase the hype for the film, especially after the presentation of the second trailer [51] [52].

The quality of the animation in the sneak peek is a quite step up from Despicable Me and Despicable Me 2 [2] [3]. Surely, Mario’s face is slightly wider in this style, but he is still animated expressively in detailed attire [36]. [13]

Sonic the Hedgehog must have a lot to think about in terms of his alliances in Sonic Prime, considering how he saved a version of Tails who barely knows him at all, along with how puzzled he is at first in one of the alternate universes he discovers in the new sneak peek [19]. It will not be long until he gets a new pair of shoes and gloves in association with a new ability that seems exclusive to the bleak universe ruled by an Eggclan as shown in the trailer [20]. If Sonic Prime were to be renewed for a second season, another adventure could be centred on risky time travelling involving Silver the Hedgehog to offer something familiar but completely fresh [32]. Even though the affair he had with a human princess sixteen years ago can be considered a deadly punishment for any toxicity in his fandom [32], much to my amusement [46], I sincerely hope my fiancé and many other Sonic supporters will enjoy the series on Netflix this Thursday [19]. Furthermore, we are yet to find out how he will gain the trust of the other alternate versions of his friends throughout an ambitiously challenging quest [20]. 

That’s right! I have unlocked the “Got Engaged” achievement on Britney Spears’ birthday [43] [44]! I hope 2023 will be a delightful year for her in honour of her freedom! And speaking of achievements, saving multiple universes sounds like a big step up for Mr. Sonic’s heroism [50]. [19]

What else is there to say about the sneak peek at this year’s Game Awards ceremony? Mario appears to be kind-hearted as he picks up a dropped coin for a Toad, potentially debunking a certain popular but rather demonising theory [28]. The way Toad warns the crowd of fellow citizens that they need to make way for Mario because his brother “will die” but then reassures him that he will be fine in a calmer tone is another example of how he can be a comic relief sidekick before his reunion with Luigi [53] [54]. Speaking of Luigi, as I have said before, there ought to be some equally engaging character progression for Luigi, most notably during the separation from his brother in the film [51] [52]. Moreover, I am up for a sequel to the film introducing a faithful interpretation of Princess Daisy, leading to a bonding between her and Luigi that will be similar to the one between Mario and Princess Peach [53] [54]. But before that possibility and a few others can be taken into consideration, The Super Mario Bros. Movie ought to further prove its worth with exceptionally interesting portrayals of Donkey Kong, Princess Peach and Bowser, aside from the Mario brothers’ re-established origins [51] [52].

Whether he is voiced by Charles Martinet or Chris Pratt, Mario’s character development in the imminent film ought to be rather proactive as he learns what he must do to find his brother and possibly rescue Princess Peach [51] [52] [53] [54]. [13]

Our Sonic supporters ought to brace themselves for a journey into the Shatterverse while our Nintendo nerds still hold their hopes as high as a coin block for The Super Mario Bros. Movie becoming an honourable success [19] [50] [51] [52] [53] [54].

I do not doubt that some of our Mario Kart racers are having a blast with the third wave of content from Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass [27]. The race through the other three waves awaits them throughout 2023. [39]
