Barbie: The Movie – Overachieving Outstandingly As A Feminist Phenomenon

2024 marks the 65th anniversary of Sleeping Beauty [150], but let us hope that Merryweather, one of the good fairies will not make all the pink things in Barbie Land blue, especially during its corruption into Kendom [62] [120]. Pinky from the MySims series would love that though [65] [102]! It is quite impactful to reflect on how I have gone from playing Detective Barbie In the Mystery of the Carnival Caper at my grandparents’ house to reflecting on the overwhelming success of the live-action film about Mattel’s plastic icon having an existential crisis [91] [143]. The film would have been entirely different if it had been distributed by Universal Pictures or Sony and released at some point in the 2010s…or if it came out in 2007 [50] [84] [151]. Choosing between Barbie and Oppenheimer in Summer 2023 was quite like an image of two lines of toys in McDonald’s Happy Meals; one aimed at boys and the other aimed at girls I would see as a child back in the day [67] [86] [92] [118] [154]. Nevertheless, gender roles suck and you can be a fan of any franchise you adore, regardless of your gender. Sometime after dinner with Stolas from Helluva Boss [111], it is time to turn up the Barbiecore once again in the Pisces season as we continue to reflect on the success of the live-action Barbie film directed by Greta Gerwig, one of our women of the year [42] [56] [73] [75] [87]. 

Look at these two meme buddies standing wholesomely together on the official McDonald’s Ecuadorean Twitter account back in Summer 2023 [96] [100]. And yes, Barbie: The Movie is not Greta Gerwig’s only film about a young woman’s crisis and the obsession with it has not stopped, especially during the run of the Barbie Career of the Year Women in Film series [13] [14] [15] [117]. While our young consumers are surprised by a new range of Polly Pocket compact toys [90], I hope all the Barbies who like their pink drinks hot and all the Barbies who like their pink drinks iced have had another best day ever in Barbie Land [18] [122]. Better not let one out of her box though [126]. [100]

More of the film and its creative team’s achievements continue to be listed one by one on social media [25] [29] [32] [39] [43] [149], including: 

• Six People’s Choice Awards, including “Movie of the Year” [19]
• The BizBash award for “Best TV or Film Premiere Event” [30] [146]
• Eight Academy Award Nominations [38]
• The SDSA award for Best Achievement in Decor/ Design in a Fantasy or Science Fiction film [44]
• Four Screen Actors Guild Award Nominations [41]
• The Thirteenth AACTA Award for “Best Film” [4]
• The AACTA Audience Choice Award for “Favourite Film” [3]

Oppenheimer, the film’s R-rated meme partner based on the story of J. Robert Oppenheimer’s involvement in the creation of the atomic bomb during World War II and its creative team have been successful at this year’s BAFTA Awards as seven awards were won [9] [46] [96] [106] [107]. In all honesty, I hardly care how “rigged” award ceremonies are as people are simply entitled to their opinions and you can always declare your own winners [133] [134]. Please do not take me back to the year 2016, Doc Brown [7] [114]! However, since perspectives change from time to time and exposures eventually get revealed, some successes could turn out to bedeceitful [80] [85] [121] [127]. But as for Barbie: The Movie and a few other amazing films that excelled in 2023, I believe that the awards they achieved were quite deserved to some extent [2], even though some aspects of their developments were not all that peachy [55]. 

Yes, even the awards Waterloo Road achieved throughout the years seem deserved to some extent [142], despite how I was experiencing some “inspiration” from the series against my will when I was about fifteen years old [140]. A British version of Mean Girls would be quite amusing though [57]. Even more achievements earned by the creative crew of Barbie: The Movie include the Golden Globe Award for “Best Original Song” [24], an Academy Award nomination for “Best Original Song” and the Society Of Composers & Lyricists Award for “Outstanding Original Song” [26] [45], which is no wonder why some of us suspect that it could be adapted into a stage musical possibly before a direct chronological follow-up in a few years’ time [143] [145]. Do not forget to show admiration for animated films that are worthy of winning awards too [2] [8]! [27]

The plot of the film was parodied in an advert for the 96th Annual Oscars that will air an hour earlier on ABC on the 10th of March [81]. It stars Jimmy Kimmel who gets lost on the way to Oscarsland, a direct parody of Barbie Land focused on the nominees for a range of achievement titles, including Poor Things. Weird Barbie becomes his guide after asking what kind of “Ken” he is in a rather infatuated manner. As the duo arrive at Carnegie Hall in the weird wagon after a colourful montage of bizarre landscapes that reference other successful films in 2023 besides Barbie: The Movie, most notably Oppenheimer [106], America Ferrera gives a parody of Gloria’s speech on how difficult it can be being a woman in society centred on being a host for the Oscars [18] [81]. With Kenough Kenergy, Ryan Gosling pops up from the back seats of the weird wagon as a callback to Ken surprising Barbie on the way to the real world. Aside from Barbie: The Movie getting nominated for eight awards at the upcoming 96th Annual Oscars [1], the advert is still a brilliant spoof that highlighted Weird Barbie’s comedic nature and so on with some creative elements [81]. 

Kimmel sure had a wild ride with Weird Barbie [81]. Some of you may recall other forms of creativity associated with these award ceremonies, such Woody, Jessie, and Buzz Lightyear from the Toy Story franchise presenting the award for “Best Animated Short” at the 72nd Annual Oscars in 2000 and the main cast of South Park making special guest appearances at the 19th and Last-Ever Annual Cable Ace Awards to present the award for “Best Talk Show Series” in 1997 [53] [108] [123] [152]. Barbie: The Movie can always be nominated for rose gold Oscars resembling a woman known as “Octavias”, “Oksanas” or “Odessas” in Barbie Land [110] [131]. [81]

2024 also marks the 60th anniversary of the debut of Allan, Ken’s buddy [10]. You do not suspect that a marmot is calling out this name [46], no? Some of my fellow 2000s kids may recall him as Midge’s husband and Ryan’s father in the Happy Family line [145]. Again, if Barbie: The Movie is “anti-male propaganda”, then how come Allan Pilgrim got sick of the patriarchal takeover and helped Barbie, Gloria and Sasha restore the essences of girl power in Barbie Land [34] [137]? I still believe he can be an empathetic ally of “Beach” Ken who can find his own identity in a spin-off series or sequel though [151]. In the meantime, his classic doll form from 1964 is available to pre-order [10]. I am glad that the film gave Allan a lot more attention [18], especially before the 60th anniversary of his debut in the Barbie franchise [10]. Call me crazy, but in a sequel or a threequel, perhaps he can be employed as a police officer alongside a new Barbie referred to as “Officer Barbie” in Barbie Land tracking down a criminal in Barbie Land but let us save our hopes for a faithfully fresh follow-up film for next year or two [49] [151]. 

In the meantime, Allan can remain a great reality dating show host and a therapist for the Kens [11]. And let us not forget to wish the Strawberry Shortcake franchise a happy 45th anniversary and Cadbury a happy 200th anniversary too [54] [125]! [10]

Can you imagine Barbie Land expanding with some pink castles like Craigievar Castle, one of the magnificent historical castles in Scotland [61] [103]? I think there ought to be more pink essences in Barbie Land [5] [36], such as a new car in a coat of hot pink, the colour of the hype for the film in production that also became a Summer fashion trend in 2022 [70] [73] [130] [138]. Oh! And do not forget some lovely shades and tints of purple, including lilac and lavender. Aside from a few princes, princesses and mermaids in Barbie Land [21] [23] [35] [51], there could also be an enchanted forest where Fairy Barbies reside and cast magic spells [48] [82] [101]. But wait! What if one of the Fairy Barbies…could turn anything pink into blue [62] [120]?! There can still be some elements of Kendom as Stephen Colbert has been knighted by Ryan Gosling for having plenty of Kenergy [128]. As grateful as I was for no longer feeling imprisoned in some Waterloo Road wannabe [140], I would be delighted to see more of Barbie Land if the movie evolves into its own franchise that should hopefully not seem “milked to death” and “a cash cow”, but simply create new opportunities for characters and new elements of creativity [151]. Again, let us save our wishes for a great sequel for its official announcement.

Barbie Land could also be expanded with not only stables for the horses during the Kendom takeover and new unicorns for Horse Rider Barbies to ride but various things coated in rose gold…or pink gold if you like to race as Pink Gold Peach in Mario Kart 8 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe [22] [104] [105]. After all, the movie received five BAFTA nominations, including “Best Production Design” [28], despite another snub [132]. In the meantime, those who strolled through Ken Street in Toronto nearly a year ago can reflect on that [139]. And if a Barbie prefers light blue or teal over pink [20], she can rock some stylish pumps styled after Hatsune Miku from Mayla because of Barbie doll logic [18] [93] [94] [95]. Could a Princess Barbie be named “Amelia” [16] [17]? [139]

Despite my bitterness towards Waterloo Road [140], I can cut the third, fourth and fifth series some slack for portraying an autistic student pretty well [141]. I would be delighted to see an autistic human who recalls being infatuated with Barbie dolls in a sequel or threequel to Barbie: The Movie, as long as the big mistakes that were made in Music will not be made again [79]. Yet again, we will just have to wait and see in a few years’ time [151]. [141]

Barbie: The Movie deserves its success for its creativity and depth [27] [28] [31] [33] [37] [40] [76]. But still, a sequel centred on Ken will come in handy for sorting out the problem its political satire unintentionally caused [135]. Moreover, there can be more effective and rational ways to discuss sexism than some examples I have witnessed [52]. And yes, there could perhaps be a threequel to Barbie: The Movie after a sequel centred on Ken excels in fixing what was considered “misandristic propaganda” and helping him find his own identity [25], much like how there could be a threequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie after its well-deserved sequel does well with an honourable portrayal of Yoshi and so on [147] [148] [150]. Speaking of threequels, there is a lot of hype for Deadpool & Wolverine that can be accelerated by the release of Deadpool & Wolverine: WWIII in May [63] [88] [89] [144]. In the meantime, be sure to check out some new Harley Quinn Funko! Pop figures that are currently available to pre-order [71] [113], along with a twin pack with Poison Ivy that was released before Valentine’s Day in honour of what can be considered my favourite ship in DC history and feel free to state your thoughts on the animated film titled “Barbie And Stacie To The Rescue” coming to Netflix a week before my birthday this March [12] [72]. Good luck back in reality [35], even if it makes me want to shriek and yank your hair out sometimes.

It would be funny if Stella and her brother Andrealphus from Helluva Boss argued over which colour a dress for Octavia on her eighteenth birthday should be; pink or blue [99] [112] [120]. Moxxine sure loves hot pink but considers a softer tint of pink “basic” [98]. At least a lighter shade always makes the sakura falls in Japan so heavenly in the Spring [109]. Near this year’s Spring, there will be a Barbiemania at Electric Ballroom in London next Saturday and a “Mother Sunday” screening of Barbie: The Movie alongside a Pink Party Bar at Bristol Aquarium just before the 96th Annual Oscars ceremony airs [64] [66] [81]. As for me, I shall look forward to the rest of the second season of Helluva Boss throughout the rest of 2024 after this year’s steamy Valentine’s Day-themed merchandise sales [97] [124] [144]. [64]

It is undeniable how revolutionary Barbie has been for sixty-five years [145]. As for her live-action cinematic hit and other movies that were released in 2023, let us be good sports about snubs at award ceremonies and not blatantly throw the term “rigged” around like sore losers [133] [134]. Besides, I may be an iPhone user, but I hold no bias against Samsung phones [69] [78] [136]. Until then, some ASMR from the friendly fuzzy pink monster named “Cosmo” might be up your alley if you are currently feeling the weight of the world on your shoulders [58] [59] [60]. Moreover, keep the Barbie and Ken ASMR vibes coming, ASMR artists [6] [60] [74] [83]! Lastly, beyond the prettiness of Barbie Land, there will be crystal creations in a new stuff pack for The Sims 4 the day after next week [129]. Imagine if Fauna made Aurora’s dress about as green as an inspired plumbob [62] [65] [120] [129]! Oh! Are The Hopes For A Follow-Up To Barbie: The Movie Kenough?

Meanwhile, a new fragrance from DefineMe Creative in a blue bottle is the “Ken” equivalent of the Barbie fragrance in a pink bottle that was released near the time of the release of the film in IMAX and is now available to pre-order for those who wish to smell good Kenough [31] [32] [33]. Speaking of being Kenough, Will Ferrell, the actor who played the role of the Mattel CEO in the film may have stated that it could be time for women to rule for world for a change during his speech at the Women in Entertainment Gala but let us make some room for a certain man to redeem himself even further as his finds his own identity [7] [63]. Furthermore, the best solution to the elephant in the room would be a sequel, spin-off film or a television series starring “Beach” Ken [80]. I sure hope you have not lost a shoe on the way back to Barbie Land [60] [61]!

Barbie: The Movie was a feminist phenomenon that dominated the box office as one of 2023’s biggest highlights [3], but there can be a chance to make a follow-up centred on Ken more equalist [25]. “Beach” Ken crushing on a new “Stereotypical” Barbie after being friendzoned by the previous one but still valuing his own identity can carefully balance what made Ken a memorable supporting character in the Barbie franchise with what can make up for the accusation of misandry the live-action film received [7] [19]. “Beach” Ken and the second “Stereotypical” Barbie can prove that dating in fiction is NOT dead as they both value a relationship AND their independences in a healthy and realistic way as an alternative to the first “Stereotypical” Barbie reuniting with the quirky dude [81]. Some fictional couples have sadly not even tried to be like that [84]. At least Ken finding a second Barbie to adore will not be like in that skit on Saturday Night Live back in 2005 [61]. [45]

And in all honesty, how Barbie’s surname when she becomes a human at the end of the film is “Handler” is a little inconsistent to me [7] [19] [82]. Shouldn’t it be “Roberts” [6]? Nonetheless, it is ultimately no big deal as the surname “Roberts” can always be given to the second “Stereotypical” Barbie if she and “Beach” Ken decide to become a human couple and it would be better to leave the previous “Stereotypical” Barbie’s new life as a human with just a very small expansion and nothing too contrived to tarnish the deep meaning of her becoming human [7]. At least Midge did not become human…after being pregnant for twenty years, which cannot be realistically healthy [43]. [73]

As satirical as the patriarchy of Kendom seemed, at least none of the maids were Niffty from Hazbin Hotel when it came to dealing with vermin…and other foes [7] [15] [21] [55]. I still stand by keeping some visual elements of Kendom in Barbie Land for those who need a break from all the pretty palettes of pink, quite like how Husk’s bar gives us a little break from all the hellish shades of red in the Pride Ring of Hell in Hazbin Hotel [1] [56]. Oh! And do not forget about the horses [7] [83]! I am pretty sure there can also be a new Ken character looking for his own identity as well without succumbing to obnoxious masculine stereotyping within a supporting role aside from a few new Barbies in Barbie Land [7] [19]. But still, the fun vibes of feminism ought to flourish as there could be another new Barbie, such as a game developer based on the Game Developer Barbie doll from 2016 [36] [67]. Additionally, a few new vehicles in Barbie Land can be lilac and magenta 1950s Corvettes in a slightly different style, such as a Lowrider [4]. Chances are that a spin-off of Barbie: The Movie centred on Ken may not be as effective in terms of storytelling besides letting a twist villain redeem himself even further [7] [19], but there is a lot of creative potential to expand on Barbie Land [81] [82] [83].

The overall production value of the Barbie movie was unmistakable [16] [18]. Well, apart from one stunt that went wrong but at least was not a falcon punch [19] [62]. Oh! And they must not forget to maintain Ken’s charmingly quirky disposition [7] [73] [38]! It works for the red-masked rascal from Marvel [30], doesn’t it? Can you imagine Bowser serenading Princess Peach in Kendom [7] [44] [68]? Aside from how provoking that plan to build a wall to prevent visitors from entering Kendom was to me since I am sick of tired of hearing about Donald Trump [7] [27] [37], I would be quite intrigued to hear more songs from the main Kenster [7]. Aside from that, it would still be important to value the movie’s feminism that honoured what Barbie truly represents; being an inspiration to young girls [14], but something ought to be done about the accusations of “anti-men propaganda” [19]. I mean, Allan Pilgrim was willing to help the Barbies restore the constitution [7] [15] [83], so the film is not entirely misandristic as many have claimed it to be. [14]

Apart from the focus of “Beach” Ken possibly finding a new love interest to avoid tarnishing the deep meaning of his first one’s conclusion of her chapter as a doll going through an existential crisis and at least some elements of Kendom left alongside more essences of pink in Barbie Land [7] [80] [81], what else is there to consider for an effective spin-off film set after the events of Barbie: The Movie? Allan ought to have a bigger role as a Kenpathetic supporter of Ken, despite his aggravation towards the creation of Kendom and “Tourist” Ken could still be a rival for the sake of some conflict [7] [19]. Perhaps Allan can have feelings for Midge in a new outfit based on the attire of the Allan from the Happy Family line from the 2000s [39] [80]. And surely, the CEO could reflect on his family life as part of some new character development [42] [78] [83]. But as part of those reflections, could he turn out to be a former Allan doll in honour of a fan theory [34]? It is possible to produce an effective follow-up without milking an insanely successful film into a franchise as if it would become solely a cash cow. It worked for Deadpool 2 and could soon work for Deadpool 3 [30] [68], right?

As for Gloria, perhaps her husband can officially be named and she can further discuss being a human woman with Barbara, even if the discussion will be a cringey jab at the menstrual cycle in a short follow-up to the conclusion of Barbie: The Movie [7] [19]. After her daughter Sasha, perhaps one of her friends will be a second “Stereotypical” Barbie’s human. [19]

Oh! And this lady can be the narrator of Ken’s next chapter [7] [14]! [19]

Aside from marketing the first anniversary of Barbie: The Movie this July [2], Turning Red will turn red once again on the big screen tomorrow and Sonic the Hedgehog 3 is set to begin a new origin for Shadow the Hedgehog this December [35] [52] [53] [69]. Perhaps those who were previously involved with Barbie Live!: The Musical in Melbourne can be involved with a stage musical adaptation of Barbie: The Movie if it ever comes to Australia [78]. In the meantime, we are completely cuted out by the crossover between the Care Bears and many beloved icons from Sanrio, especially Hello Kitty in honour of her 50th anniversary [26] [41]. Just under a week before this year’s Valentine’s Day, think of the best co-op games to play with your darling Player 2, such as Portal 2, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Stardew Valley and It Takes Two [28]. Surely, we ought to be a Barbie and a Ken in a box together as a gamer couple someday [5], just like Claud Wolf and Draculaura as a Valentine’s Day duet in the same way Deuce Gorgon and Cleo De Nile were boxed together last year [50] [51]. Baymax & Mochi – A Charming Spin-Off Nearly Four Years Later

Valentine’s Eve, otherwise known as “Galentine’s Day” was yet another time of hazbeans falling in love with a new wave of Valentine’s Day-themed Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss merchandise [22] [23] [26] [47], along with an emerald-themed tea party for princesses in the mortal realm [24]. On Valentine’s Day, the day afterwards that is also known as Lara Croft’s birthday and led to the opportunity of Deadpool being nicknamed “Lovepool” for an issue of Deadpool Loves The Marvel Universe on Marvel Unlimited [2] [27] [48] [57], my fiancé and I watched all three episodes of Baymax & Mochi, along with Once Upon A Snowman and Olaf Presents on Disney+ [8] [39] [40] [49]. The short series first premiered on Disney Channel back in the Spring of 2019. Alas, Disney Channel outside of America [37]. We knew you well. Even though the Big Hero 6 franchise originated from Marvel Comics [53] [54], one simply cannot argue that Deadpool would be a competent healthcare companion as well [42] [43] [44]. As for Baymax, I still recall reviewing the trailer for the spin-off series that came three years after Baymax & Mochi and watching and praising it about one or two months later [1] [38] [53] [54]. Until I am satisfied with my care, I shall proceed to review and analyse Baymax & Mochi in 2023 during the announcement and release of the Festival of Friendship update for Disney Dreamlight Valley [8] [10] [11] [12] [28] [58]. 

Some could say I am four years late to the party when Baymax & Mochi first aired on Disney Channel, but I am also planning to re-review “Murder Family”, the first episode of the first season of Helluva Boss once its French dub from the amazing Hazbin Hotel French dub team is released [21] [46] [51] [52]. [11]

I also hope my fellow gamers have had a great Valentine’s Day [32] [33], which was probably an ideal date inspired by their favourite franchises [4] [55] [56]. My fiancé and I sure did. Anyway, let us get this review and analysis started. [26]

All three episodes of Baymax & Mochi series handle Baymax’s clumsiness and Mochi’s recklessness well when it came to simplistic but approvable writing [10] [11] [12], similar to “Baymax and Mochi”, the fifth short of Big Hero 6: The Series that first aired back in Summer 2018 [9] [36]. The first episode titled “Flowers and Butterflies” is about Baymax catching plant pots being knocked off a window ceil by Mochi [10]. The second one titled “Mochi and his Toy” is Mochi wanting his toy mouse off a roof [12]. Lastly, the third episode titled “Messy Room” is simply Baymax cleaning Hiro’s room [11]. As quirky as the promotional video forThe Super Mario Bros. Movie is as a plumbing service commercial with The Super Mario Bros. Super Show theme song [5] [35], the premises of each episode of Baymax & Mochi are simple yet provide some artistry involving a bond between a cat and a caring robot [10] [11] [12], which delighted fans of the Big Hero 6 series three years before the release of Baymax!on Disney+ [38]. Furthermore, lasting for only three episodes makes Bayman & Max a potential example of “quality over quantity” and “sometimes less is more” [10] [11] [12]. However, can you imagine if there were at least one, two or three more episodes during its short run?

Tadashi Hamada created an angel from Robot Heaven before his tragic death in the movie [3]. [10]

And here he is with a hairy baby in the cheaper and bolder art style with stronger colours in Big Hero 6: The Series [9]. [36]

How well is each scenario handled in terms of portraying Baymax’s clumsy but compassionate nature and Mochi as a reckless kitty cat, you ask?  Well, in “Messy Room”, the moment of Baymax proceeding to clean Hiro’s room is portrayed as if he was a lyrical dancer as classical music plays from a computer tablet [11]. The ultimate solution to retrieving Moshi’s toy mouse “Mochi and his Toy” is letting him pounce on the wings of Baymax’s super suit that was thankfully not put away by a significant other [12] [20] [29] [30].How Baymax matches each plant plot leads to a wholesome moment of him being covered in by a swarm of butterflies in “Flowers and Butterflies” [10]. Aside from the wholesomeness, there are also some humourous moments, such as a little clumsiness causing Hiro’s room to become messy again in “Messy Room” and a plant plot landing on Baymax’s head and squashing it in “Flowers and Butterflies” [10] [11], which nails the charm of the movie to a T. The trilogy basically took the concepts of “Baymax and Mochi” from Big Hero 6: The Series and stretched it into new moments after dividing it by three to further develop a bond between a feline and a healthcare companion [9] [10] [11] [12] [36].

The build-up of Baymax about to fly in his armour to retrieve Mochi’s toy…only to be stooped by the bobtail kitty pouching on the wings, so that he can get it himself is a pretty good moment of irony [12], which is another example of great humour in a spin-off of Big Hero 6 [3]. [12]

Being wholesome and funny. What more could Baymax & Mochi have done to be an exceptional spin-off of Big Hero 6 [3] [10] [11]? [12]

The most notable aspect of Baymax & Mochi is its splendid and rather eye-catching art style [10] [11] [12]. The Big Chibi 6 series also had a strikingly different art style that quirkily shrieks “Chibi!” [13] [53] [54], but the art style of Baymax & Mochi is sophisticated with more complexity by comparison [10] [11] [12]. It is quite like what you would see in an artistic storybook with vibrant and easing colours. Examples of beauty include the sakura trees in “Mochi and his Toy” and the glitter from the blue butterfly who fist bumps Baymax in “Flowers and Butterflies”. I was especially starstruck at the beautiful scene with all the butterflies fluttering elegantly in “Flowers and Butterflies”. Even the shading, shadows and the shine of Hiro’s cleaned floor that displays a reflection of Baymax’s legs are done remarkably. Did I mention that the animation in Bayman & Mochi is even smoother than the bold and seemingly cheaper animation in Big Hero 6: The Series [9] [15] [17] [18]? What if the deep breathing exercise from the third episode of Keeping Busy At Home With Baymax was in the art style of Baymax & Mochi [10] [11] [12] [16]? That could make me blissfully sink in a pool of cartoony tranquillity, thus possibly making me the next little mermaid [41].

The art style is like scrolling through a series of painted canvases, making Bayman & Mochi a unique spin-off of Big Hero 6 [10] [11]. [12]

And did I also mention that the animation in Big Chibi 6 also consisted of a bolder art style and less smoothness? [13]

Almost four years after they aired on Disney Channel [10] [11] [12], all three episodes of Baymax & Mochi enchanted my fiancé and me on Disney+ [8]. Even though it is nice to look back on what we delightfully witnessed before an unfortunate closure [37], there can still be new experiences to try as time goes on, such as adventures in Super Nintendo World [19]. Another one of them could be the second season of Pixar’s Cars On The Road, considering the sign of it happening at the end of the ninth episode [45]. Could there also be a second season of Olaf Presents with Olaf parodying and summing up other Disney films, such as Sleeping Beautyor a second season of Baymax! with Baymax caring for new patients and possibly some assistance of the heroic Mini Max [7] [18] [38] [53] [54]? Speaking of second seasons, I will still hold onto my optimism for the rest of the second season of Helluva Boss, wondering if there will be a stunning new outfit for Stolas of the Ars Goetia in a new episode [31] [34] [50]. Care for some Devil Hello Kitty cake [6]? The loveable robotic nurse would recommend a balanced diet with plenty of fruit and vegetables though. Okay, Baymax. I am satisfied with my care. Thank you very much for the lollipop [3]. 

Even though I was humbled by the wholesomeness and wit of Baymax & Mochi from 2019 [10] [11] [12], we still need to remain cautious in 2023 as Venom will join the league against Lilith as part of new DLC for Marvel’s Midnight Suns next week [25]. [10] [11] [12]

How about a fist bump as part of the big celebration of the 100th anniversary of Walt Disney Studios [3] [13] [38]? Ba la la la la! [10]

Sonic The Hedgehog’s Cinematic Sequel – A Likely Acclaim?

It has been over a year since the theatrical release and ironic acclaim of the live-action film starring Sonic the Hedgehog, which was quite a rehash of how plenty of fans, including my younger self, enjoyed watching the fanmade movie from Blue Core Studios back in January 2013 [1]. Although the cost and efforts to drastically redesign the blue dude after the film’s delay back in 2019 seemed risky [22], I still thank Jeff Fowler and the visual designers for acting upon so much backlash in such a responsible manner [52] [56], which was slightly similar to how a scene in Lilo and Stitch had to be cropped and heavily edited before the film’s release in 2002 to avoid disrespecting the victims of the devastating terror attacks that occurred back in September 2001 [51]. Due to the final outcome’s success that beat the record Detective Pikachu held in early 2020, the filming for a chronological sequel began earlier this month [13], which is a sign of a lot of motivation to help the blue blur maintain his Hollywood image from his movie’s creative team. Since I have personally enjoyed watching the first film with my boyfriend last year [48] [53], I shall discuss how its sequel should excel in 2022.

Plenty of us have considered Sonic the Hedgehog’s movie a surprising acclaim before Chuck E. Cheese sang to the youth of today live from home, sending some more positive vibes during the first lockdowns in the first half of 2020 [2] [3]. [46]

Now that we know that the sequel is in the works [47], let us keep our hopes high for an outcome that will further enrich the legacy of Sonic the Hedgehog in live action. [13] [47]

Whoa! Just look at the title announcement that was released back in February, leading up to a lot of potential [34] [42]! The number two that swiftly appears next to the unique logo for the first film consists of two highly familiar tails sticking out and glows in a striking shade of yellow, indicating something…or someone showing up in the sequel. It was pretty neat how it was even featured in a short but fairly special Chinese New Year celebration in honour of the year of the ox [28] [50]. I recall praising the uniqueness of the first movie’s logo during negative reactions towards the pre-release posted that featured Sonic’s old movie design back in late 2018, notably due to the shape of his quills craved into the letter “C” [61]. Aside from the exceptional design of the logo and promising title [34] [42], there will be hope that the sequel will be as honourable as Frozen II and Finding Dory [11] [15], from interesting new character development to even more humourous moments. Quite similarly, this would also apply to the hopes for a second season of Helluva Boss in the very near future of animation for mature audiences after the first one is completed [19] [57] [58].

I thought I could hear 1992 calling [40]…and it is stating that 2022 can share the vibes of its 16-bit sequel soon [47]. [34]

The mid-credits scene after the first film’s conclusion showed strong indication that there would be a sequel that brings out the prime vibes of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, the nostalgic game from 1992 that further enriched the legacy of the classic Sonic games from the ‘90s [40] [48]. It is all because of the sudden appearance of Miles “Tails” Prower. How he was holding a tracking device in the mid-credits scene briefly reminded me of how he often held his translator in Sonic Colours [37]. I do believe that Tails’ role in the movie that takes place after the events of the first one will be quite a big one. Could he try to catch up to Sonic’s incredible speed like how he did in a flashback in the crossover they were in an episode of OK KO! Let’s Be Heroes [21]? It is important for a film’s title and logo to not be greatly misleading [34] [42], so Tails ought to be the second main character in the sequel of the movie [47], thus honouring the legacy of the sequel to the first-ever Sonic game [40]. I guess it will not be long until Emi Jones could do her own dub of the mid-credits scene from the first film [24] [25] [26] [48].

The adorable and intelligent two tailed fox will definitely be a huge part of the next chapter of the blue-armed rodent’s life [48]. [46]

Obviously, the same big mistake should not be made again as Sonic’s much more preferable design will definitely return in the sequel [23], despite how I believed that the old design was just misguided rather than completely hideous [59]. As I would still call the film’s fairly unique incarnation of him “Blue Lightning” due to how the aura of his speed results in blue static [22] [48], I think that he would call me “Mint Gal” because of how I like to have a mint to keep my breath fresh [48]. The way he got upset at how alone he felt after playing baseball by himself and accidentally caused a massive power cut reminded me of how Elsa’s ice powers were revealed after her coronation and could not be controlled due to how scared she was in Frozen [14]. Since it was announced that the talented Roger Craig Smith will no longer be voicing the speedy blue dude in early 2021 [41], could Ben Schwartz do the honours after the release of the sequel? As Schwartz reprises his role for the sequel, I will be expecting some more witty lines and references to other film franchises on perhaps a way back to where he came from [48].

The original design that was revealed back in 2019 could have been worse [22], but at least the redesign was a huge improvement. [46]

Here is how the movie version of Sonic looked in Sonic Dash and Sonic Forces: Speed Battle. He was referred to as “Teen Sonic” in both mobile games as an indication that the movie sets up a new origin. [45]

There has been some speculation that Knuckles the Echidna will appear at some point in the sequel too [47]. However, I think less is more, meaning that fewer characters in a story means more time for them to realistically develop their traits and relationships and contribute to something meaningful in the plot [35] [36]. Despite this, it seems highly likely that he could appear in the mid-credits scene as a sign of a third film being made after the release of the sequel, thus leading to the series eventually becoming a trilogy, which is what the live-action Garfield film series from the mid-2000s never managed to evolve into [17] [18]. Well, except in Zombieland: Double Tap [65]. Alternatively, if Knuckles ought to appear in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 at another point, could he start as a member of the tribe that was seen at the beginning of the first film if Sonic manages to return to his home world for old time’s sake [48]? If so, that would lead to an iconic co-star receiving a new and interesting evolution in this new decade. I think Dwayne Johnson’s voice and skills in acting would suit a new live-action interpretation of the red echidna quite well [10] [27].

It would kind of make sense for Knuckles to firstly appear in the sequel as a member of the tribe since the movie’s timeline is basically a new origin of Blue Lightning and all of the echidnas at the beginning of the first film were members of a tribe [48]. [46]

The talented Jim Carey did such a fantastic job that portraying a rather unique version of Dr. Robotnik who had brown hair before being defeated by the blue blur [48]. As a bizarre yet surprising choice for the role, I still recall many witty moments with him as Robotnik, including his groovy dance moves. It was interesting to see the arrogant scientist with hair, a more sophisticated moustache and a black trench coat in his pre-Sonic-hating origin [43]. Part of me wishes that how he was bullied at some point in his youth was not mentioned as some stories have turned victims of bullying into villains [5] [29]. I am absolutely sure that Eggman will escape from the Mushroom Dimension and seek revenge on Sonic at some point in the sequel, being as menacing as he was in the first film. The only differences will be that his patch of brown hair will be absent and his moustache will be longer and scruffier [48]. Letting Carey reprise the role will be totally worth it as he won the “Best Villain In A Movie” award at the Critics’ Choice Super Awards for his outstanding performance of Dr. Robotnik [43].

Did anyone notice Robotnik’s return during the Christmas break [48]?! [46]

What can I say about the movie-exclusive characters? It was devastating how Sonic lost a good friend of his when he was little. Her name was Longclaw, which was quite fitting as she has long wings and claws on her talons, just like how an owl would consist of those in real life [44] [48]. She was a firm, but caring mother figure to a much younger Sonic who at least appreciated his efforts of bringing her a flower in spite of how he failed to keep his powers hidden from a tribe of echidnas. Would you believe she was even a playable character in Sonic Dash and Sonic Forces: Speed Battle in association with the games’ involvement with promoting the film [44]? It would be a huge relief if she turns out to be alive and well before Tails leaves Sonic’s world to go and find him during a brief flashback or an introduction in the sequel. Moreover, the flashback could also provide some further explanation for why the tribe were after Sonic at the beginning of the first movie [48]. And a moment of her being alive and well could lead to such an emotional moment of a teenaged Sonic finally reuniting with her.

Watching the first film, I knew that deep down, Sonic must have felt as if he was responsible for how he had to be separated from Longclaw [48]. Perhaps in the sequel, he can express that feeling before his next battle against Dr. Robotnik as a sign that she might still be alive back in his home world. [46]

At least Sonic knows that not all humans are jerks. Tom Wachowski’s role as a sidekick in the first film was indeed similar to the role of Freddick O’Hare from Hop, not just because both characters have been portrayed by James Marsden [20] [48]. It was adorable how he was helping some ducks cross the street before he met the blue speedster, along with how the ducks’ names are references to three iconic cartoon ducks. Despite his disapproval of some racoons dining on the trash outside of his house, I am pretty sure he would be fascinated at Sly Cooper [16]. Maddie Wachowski, Tom’s wife is probably my favourite human character of the film because of how caring and rational she is [48]. I also like how she chooses to stay married to Tom, despite her sister trying to convince her to divorce him as it is a sign of her being a strong female character who is not afraid to be assertive. Could she be pregnant at some point in the forthcoming sequel as an aspect of new character development? I am sure Mr. and Mrs. Wachowski would be great biological parents.

Aren’t Donut Lord and Pretzel Lady precious together? [46]

To at least be engaging, the overall plot of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 should not provide too many elements that are recycled from the first film [48]. I think Dumb and Dumber To could have been more passable if its story did not borrow too many plot points from its predecessor [8] [9]. Surely the prime aspect of finding a lost relative was taken from Finding Nemo during the development Finding Dory [12], but the sequel’s plot at least managed to remain fresh with a new setting for a new quest [11]. Additionally, there are signs that the second season of My Little Pony: Pony Life provides some fresh new ideas for plots with an alternate universe the Mane Six end up in [31] [62] [63]. I strongly believe that Sonic will develop a strong friendship with Tails in Sonic the Hedgehog 2 in 2022 [47] [48], just like back in 1992 [40]. As previously mentioned, there ought to be some new character development to let the stars gradually shine brighter, such as Maddie agreeing to become a mother. Throughout the second chapter of the blue-armed blur’s origin, we ought to be proud of him, like how I was proud of three incarnations of Lara Croft becoming a battler in the sixth season of the second chapter of Fortnite [60] [64].

I am up for a new sequence of Sonic running through rings that take him to different places in the human world in the sequel [48], but I still stand by how I hope that the overall plot will not borrow too many elements from the first one as it is important for a sequel to provide fresh and new aspects to greatly reduce predictability. [46]

So, the official sequel to the Sonic the Hedgehog movie titled “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” will be in theatres on the 8^th of April 2022, the same date as the upcoming sequel to Spider-Man: Into The Verse [4] [30] [47] [49]. There will be some intense competition between the two! I would love to see Princess Elise from Sonic ‘06 return in another Sonic the Hedgehog game, but as a far more independent supporting character without much reliance on a protagonist’s co-operation [39]. It worked for Mayor Pauline in Super Mario Odyssey [32], right? Speaking of Pauline, I adored her Valentine’s Day attire and an angelic sample of her singing abilities from the Peach VS Daisy tour in Mario Kart Tour back in February [33]. And speaking of Valentine’s Day, watching the ironically successful movie starring Sonic the Hedgehog was how my boyfriend and I spent it last year…before it simply kept getting worse [52]. Moreover, I would still be interested to see a new anime series based on the blue dude’s legacy that does not fall into the hands of degrading censorship before it airs in the West [6] [7] [54] [55]. Here is to a rather memorable celebration of his 30^th anniversary in 2021 [38]!

My boyfriend and I will be looking to seeing the official trailer for Sonic the Hedgehog 2. I might as well analyse it, just like how we analysed the trailers for the first film together back in 2019 [52] [56]. [47]

Halfway Through The Hellish First Season Of Helluva Boss

This is an analysis and review of two episodes of an animated series aimed at mature audiences that contain:

• Strong cartoon violence, including blood and gore
• Graphic cartoon death scenes
• Crude humour, including one moment of vomiting
• One moderate drug reference

The progress of the first season of Helluva Boss is still blazing like the fires of Hell. At the end of January, “Spring Broken” was released as the third episode of the animated series [42]. Over two weeks later, a deeply seductive voice informed fellow Hazbeans about new Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss merchandise being sold for a limited time to help SpindeHorse Toons maintain a fully compatible budget for future projects [15] [49]. Later on, it was announced that the official French dub of the first episode would be released after the reveal of the dub’s cast in honour of the magnifique acclaim of the pilot’s official French dub from late 2020 [17] [18] [45]. It was not long until the release of the fourth episode titled “C.H.E.R.U.B” that was almost a week after International Women’s day [47], concluding the first half of the first season. To spice things up even more after writing my new novella [73], I have decided to review TWO episodes for the price of one, thus preparing for trouble and making it double as if I was about to confront Team Rocket [54]. I also hope that I do not have to feel like how Greg Heffley felt in 2020 anymore [80].

Vivziepop! Vivziepop! Oh, Vivzie, Vivzie, Vivzie, Vivziepop [50]! [48]

That careless announcer may have almost caused me to lose half of my eyesight by letting the cork of a bottle fly straight into my eye a while ago [48], but I was more than daring to watch the fourth episode after the completion of my new novella [73]. At least I did not give the guy a flaming bag of poo [11] [12]. [47]

It looks like the hell of a boss is still rather repulsive as he is seen destroying a television set at the beginning of “C.H.E.R.U.B” [42]. Would you believe that he had been saving up for a green pony seemingly named “Mareajuana” by the design of its cap and its cutie mark that resembles a cannabis leaf? As sleazy and reckless Blitzo can be, I can at least still root for him because of how he angrily confronts a new character and her team about Moxxie being sexually harassed by them and does not brush it off as an off-colour incident in “Spring Broken” [47]. But then again, he does not bother to help Moxxie after he got crushed by a shattered chunk of a wall in the office twice in “C.H.E.R.U.B” [42]. Aside from the rivalries he gets into, he stills shows determination when it comes to being a hell of a boss as he is still the boss of his business in Hell. Perhaps we should keep the “o” in his name silent if any of us meet him in the afterlife. And perhaps Corrupt Strider could narrate he and his employees’ killing sprees if they were ever in a video game [61].

Blitzo’s overall portrayal in the first half of the first season is a sign of the show’s title being completely trustworthy and not misleading [43] [44], unlike Angry Kid as the red-haired teen hardly ever gets angry and just gets into gross humour or other tactics, leading to his father getting angrily irritated at him in some episodes [2]. [42]

I am not really comfortable with the thought of a character who suffers from anxiety being sexually harassed regardless of said character’s gender, even in a cartoon aimed at adults. But what makes it not seem solely included for shock humour is how it motivates Blitzo into challenging another one of his enemies to result in more engaging conflict within the plot of “Spring Broken”. [42]

Is the love between the two littler imps still lasting [32]? Of course! Well, in spite of them wanting to know what sex with a well-known singer is like at one point [47]. I adore how Millie rescues a drunk Moxxie from being devoured by a monstrous being in “Spring Broken” as it is an example of proof that the damsel-in-distress does not always have to be a female and that the rescuer does not always have to be a male. Super Princess Peach much [53]? Once she insulted one of the new characters out of annoyance, resulting in a little bawl in “C.H.E.R.U.B”, I was like “Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!”. Just after Moxxie sprang into action and caught Millie just in time, the two started to make out and I was like “Bow chika bow wow!” [42] [46] [71] [72]. Considering how much conflict Moxxie has gone through in the series so far, including being crushed by chunks of a wall in “C.H.E.R.U.B” [42], his affection for his wife still seems to be his ultimate coping mechanism, which is absolutely precious. I would say their love is about as functional as Wade Wilson and Vanessa Carlysle in Deadpool 2 [8].

It was quite funny how the so-called “possum” got drunk after being released from a barrel of beer in “Spring Broken”. He sure has that “cute drunk” vibe. [47]

What else can I say about Moxxie and Millie’s love for one another, apart from how adorable they look in their cat costumes in “C.H.E.R.U.B” [42]? The French version of “Oh Millie” was totally worth it since French is a language of love [19] [45]. [42]

By the way Loona is the only member to fully disguise herself as a human, I could tell by the newly revealed human forms that the writers wanted to potentially fill in a plot hole in “Spring Broken”, which is what I will give them more kudos for [47]. Aside from that, we see an expansion on her usually moodiness when she expresses her frustration with Blitzo babying her and such later in the episode. Any of the other four episodes with the second half of the first season that feature a new assignment ought to provide that same sudden consistency that continued in “C.H.E.R.U.B.”, even though the divides are the I.M.Ps turned out to be not as convincing as Loona’s human form [42]. The way Loona also can lure humans to their demises is quite succubus-like when it comes to finally being able to have a more productive role in the business. I am quite delighted that Loona finally has a potentially softer side when it comes to crushing on a new character and gaining some further self-empowerment in honour of her employment outside of how disrespectful she was in the pilot [44].

The conflict between Blitzo and Loona at some point in “Spring Broken” provides some more interesting backstory for the hell of a boss and soon leads to the disguised hellhound feeling some slight remorse for her outburst, which enriches her character development in a humane way outside of a new form of self-empowerment and productivity in the team she consists of whilst disguised as a human. [47]

The mysterious singer who has her own song in “Spring Broken” is Blitzo’s ex-girlfriend [31]. And boy, even though Verosika Mayday is attractive in her human disguise [33], it seems like her breakup with a hell of a boss must have been ugly, thus being fuelled by some measly bickering over a spot within a car park in the present [47]. Not only is she a cunning pop star on Earth and in Hell, but she is also a succubus who can cause arousal through her musical abilities and such [31]. I do NOT want to know what is in the liquor that was in the bottle she threw that spawned a monstrous being in the ocean. And I highly doubt she would want to befriend Aston Kole after she dies [14]. As much as I believe that quite a lot of conflict that erupted mostly over a darn parking space is rather pitiful, it was interesting to see a new female character as another element of Blitzo’s backstory. Now that we know about a relationship he had that failed, there is hope that we may know a little more about one of his sisters Verosika mentioned being in rehab as we know that both of them appear in posters in his office [20] [29].

Verosika’s ability to cause humans to be sexually stimulated on Earth in a charming way as a singer whilst in her human form reminds me of Catherine from the game with the name same [5]. Could Petey the Sexual Harassment Panda from South Park teach the succubi to not take it too far [60]? Apart from her failed relationship with Blitzo, could a new open relationship between her and another demon be better in another episode? [47]

It turns out that the new male hellhound is named “Vortex” and is not related to Loona at all [47] [71] [72]. Instead, he becomes her potential love interest once they meet in their human forms. Despite how tough and stern he seemed in Hell and Earth, even when he defended Verosika from an overly obsessed fan of hers as a human, he eventually softens up whilst talking to Loona at a beach where Verosika’s concert takes place. I like how his human form resembles an African-American man as it expands on the diversity within the steadily increasing amount of characters in the series. Did anyone else sense a Romeo and Juliet vibe between them since Vortex is Verosika’s bodyguard as Blitzo butts in during their little conversation [10] [11] [57]? Besides that, I really like how wholesome he can be off duty [47], which makes him far beyond the generic “tough guy” trope. Bless him. I wonder if he can appear in either another episode in the second half of the first seasons or the second one with the opportunity to be even closer to Loona, even though he mentioned that he was already in a relationship with another hound. Could there be a love triangle?

Tex sure is a nice guy outside of his occupation. Does anyone else ship him with Loony? [47]

Can you believe that the fourth episode titled “C.H.E.R.U.B” brought on an epic battle that was hinted with certain emojis in its last two previews on Twitter [35] [36]? The cherubs in Heaven may look as cute as the characters from the Kitten Catfe series [37] [38] [39], but I still remember hoping that they will not be as strangely menacing as the panda from the 2016 reboot of The Powerpuff Girls who sounded like Mickey Mouse after he smoked marijuana before the episode’s release [64] [76] [77]. Nonetheless, it makes so much sense for the trio to try and convince a new character to not commit suicide and make suggestions on what to do with his money, such as paying for hospitals since it is commonly believed that tender-hearted people go to Heaven after they die. Throughout the whole episode, I found it quite weird how I was honestly siding with a team against the imps for a change, despite their client’s questionable morality. Since it has been confirmed in the Hazbin Hotel pilot that Hell is overpopulated [24], what if there are currently only about one-hundred and forty-four thousand saved souls and spiritual beings [40] [55], including the Cherubs in Heaven before they made a mistake?

Would you believe that Medrano herself also voiced another character from Heaven named “Deerie” [23] [41]? [42]

I felt bad for the Cherubs being forbidden to return to Heaven after a big mistake, especially Cletus who burst into tears. Perhaps they might appear in another episode as fallen angels in darker designs in either another episode of Season One or at some point in Season Two? [42]

What other new characters are there in “C.H.E.R.U.B”? The energetic man referred to as “Loopity Poopity” who died and went to Hell sure is loopy as he exclaims in a sing-song voice, but he has a fairly unique backstory [42]. How he aged far too quickly to the point he passed away efficiently is rather unsettling and we can understand his motives for hiring the I.M.P as his companion Lyle Lippton survived the rapid ageing…only to betray him by making all the money for himself. I may not approve of Lyle only caring about the money and expressed hatred towards orphans, even at his deathbed, but I was quite unnerved at how he attempted to hang himself before the three cherubs arrive. Towards the fourth episode’s conclusion, I liked how he realised why life is worth living as we only get to live once, even though he only refrained from committing suicide just to buy materialistic things…and suddenly got crushed by the piano. His afterlife design kind of reminds me of Grounder from The Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog [66], but he mostly looks like Dr. Robotnik [58] [59]. Now that the two men are reunited in Hell, could they be new rivals for Sir Pentious from Hazbin Hotel [69] [74] [75]?

There is also a character who previously appeared in “Loo Loo Land” named “Wacky Wally Wackford” who is really not subtle with hiding his true money-hungry intentions [43]. [42]

I may be quite unnerved at the battle between three angels trying to prevent a greedy old man from killing himself and three demons trying to convince him to do it, but I can at least feel the tension within the father unique conflict [42]. I would honestly root for a character to not commit suicide since I recall explaining how seriously suicide is taken in today’s society [73] [74]. Nevertheless, I am still up for our devilish antiheroes slaying new non-suicidal human antagonists partially for their immoral acts as part of stone-cold karma. Besides, I want Katie Killjoy from the pilot of Hazbin Hotel to get sacked from her job for how relentless she was Charlie [67] [73] [74]. [42]

Some new visuals in these two new episodes further enrich the expansions of what the first season of the show has to offer. Two moments that remind me of the intro of the original Powerpuff Girls series are the stage’s huge screens during Verosika’s performance in “Spring Broken” and the moment of two of the cherubs hugging in “C.H.E.R.U.B” [42] [47]. The way Blitzo’s storyboard suddenly becomes an animated sequence in “Spring Broken” is utterly brilliant with crudely drawn versions of the characters on a plain white background, somewhat resembling the asdfmovie series [56]. Apart from how the beach in “Spring Broken” is also colourful and detailed [47], the tiny hearts that spawn from Verosika and some members of her audience add to her ambitions in sexually stimulating mortals. The colour palettes of Heaven in “C.H.E.R.U.B” are indeed heavenly with soft tints of blue and yellow, matching the cherubs’ adorable designs [42]. The filter used for Loopity Poopity’s backstory contains a specific palette and effect to make it look like an old film from the 1940s, which greatly expand on the animators’ artistic abilities. With the same energy and amount of detail from the pilot and first two episodes put into the animation and backgrounds, the third and fourth episodes are visually exceptional.

The moment the sky went all dark as the giant fish monster rose from the depths of the ocean add to a sudden change of tone within the scene in “Spring Broken”. The bleaker colour palette for the sky makes Millie’s mission to save Moxxie from being devoured by it and then slaughter it more intense. [47]

Betty Boop in Helluva Boss?! What the hell?! It is crazy enough that a parody of Dora the Explorer made an appearance in that episode of The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy [68]! [42]

I will admit that I found a scene in “C.H.E.R.U.B” a little out of place [42]. Strangely enough, one location the cherubs show Lyle to try and save him from suicidality is a shopping centre where a man dressed up as Santa Claus spreads joy to many children, which made me believe that “C.H.E.R.U.B” is set in December at first, but as I reflect on other scenes on Earth being set in warmer climates, I still found the Santa Claus scene to be highly inconsistent and unfitting for the time of the episode’s release. Nonetheless, I think that scene within the fourth episode must have developed during the Christmas break of 2020, so some slack from yours truly will be given. Alternatively and quite strangely, the whole episode might as well be set in July, meaning that the humans at the shopping centre must have been celebrating Christmas in the summer, just like how the cul-de-sac kids from Ed, Edd n Eddy did one time [9], along with how the Baby Looney Tunes attempted to pretend it was Christmas for Lola to receive a present during the same season [4]. Who knows? An actual Christmas-themed episode of Helluva Boss might be released this December.

I swear! If this pandemic does not end by July, I am putting my Christmas tree up early! [42]

With wit and courageousness, let us analyse some more forms of humour. Moxxie’s critique of Blitzo’s poster in “Spring Broken” kind of reminds me of how I would expect people to critique some of my older writing [47] [71] [72]. Nevertheless, many damned souls get easily convinced by it, which is quite pricelessly ironic. I cannot believe there would be a sneaky fourth wall break regarding the fandom, which is the camera gradually zooming into the I.M.P team looking directly at us after Blitzo explains his reasoning for forbidding Loona to join the bet against his ex at first. How the tour guide on the bus describes the disguised I.M.Ps about to sneak into Lyle’s mansion in such a calm and casual manner in “C.H.E.R.U.B” is assuming [42]. Despite how shocked I was at how a greedy old man tried to hang himself, I can see how some fairly clever dark humour was added to Moxxie’s speaking formally as he suggested he proceed in attempting suicide after the cherubs interfere. The moment Blitzo reveals Santa’s true identity takes a particular scene in Elf to a whole new level [13]. The series ought to still be remotely funny, but still make room for interesting character development in the next half of the first season.

Guys, I am NOT one of those freaks up there! I swear!! I am just a reviewer!! Please do not kill me!! [47]

I could not believe that the fourth episode was teased with a preview of Blitzo and Moxxie crossdressing on Twitter before its release [44]. But EWWWWWW!! A spray bottle full of a substance that smells like urine?! Really?! At least the disguises they and Millie use in “C.H.E.R.U.B” are pretty quirky, including adorable cat suits for the married couple. [42]

Let us tune in to some new tunes in these two new episodes, starting with the ones in “Spring Broken”. The rock song Blitzo sings along to in the van titled “Mustang Dong” sure is rowdy with explicit lyrics [27] [47]. Vacay to Bonetown, the ballad Verosika croons on stage is rather hypnotic and sounds like a song Megurine Luka could do a cover of someday [47] [63]. It is themed around going on a vacation in the summer with lyrics such as “Take a Vacay babe” and contains some sexual references such as “Catch some rays with catching some D” [30]. What about the one in “C.H.E.R.U.B”? Well, well, well. It seems like the lyrics of the theme song for the C.H.E.R.U.B’s business point to the fact that their prime goal is the polar opposite of the I.M.P’s business after all [22] [47] [71] [72]. Furthermore, it kind of sounds like a sugary-sweet parody of the theme song for the I.M.Ps from the pilot to a degree [44]. Surely there ought to be French versions of the songs from the last two episodes, including the angsty song titled “My World Is Burning Down Around Me” a teenaged Octavia listens to in “Loo Loo Land” with help of the wonderful Hazbin Hotel Version Française team [16] [19] [28] [43].

Perhaps the devious and seductive Verosika will have another musical number up her sleeve in another episode within the first season [46] [71] [72]. She really does have those Catherine vibes [5]. Who knows? [47]
